oooh, a contest!

The Happy Chic Home Contest!

PointClickHome and Jonathan Adler are on hunt for the happiest and chicest home in America! If you mix and match with panache, believe colors can’t clash, and surround yourself with smile-inducing decor, we want to see your style! Starting June 24, 2008, you can e-mail irresistible@jonathanadler.com three to six pictures of your rooms with a 100-250 word description showing us why Jonathan Adler's Maximalist design has inspired your decorating and how you've transformed your home to a happy chic abode. Enter for a chance to win up to a $2,500 gift card for Jonathan Adler retail and online stores. Last call for submissions is August 21st and we will announce the top three winners on August 28th.

$2500 gift card! For Jonathan Adler!! Oh, I'm getting excited just thinking about it!! Sadly, although my house is really cute, I don't think it's probably up to speed. Still, can you imagine $2500 worth of JA? Although I love his furniture I would probably forgo that for an entire house of ceramics and needlepoint pillows. If you would like more information look at www.pointclickhome.com, and if you win tell me what you buy!!

Real (Estate) Love

Did I ever mention that my family are real estate hounds? Not that we randomly buy houses or flip them or anything, we just really love to look at them. So we found this little house here in KC. It's pretty cute on the outside, but there are a lot of this style around here. What makes it the coolest house ever are the two rooms it has--the bathroom and the kitchen!
So the kitchen looks like it was built specifically to bake cupcakes in. I mean, the arched doors, the curvy windowthingy and the amazing blue tile?? And to top it all off--the perfect black and white tiled kitchen floor.

And the bathroom is a triumph of pink and black crazy Moroccan silhouetteness. It's even set off by an art deco mirror and black lamps. I love it.

I'm guessing that this house was built by a man named Dybole (sp?) According to our realtor he built a lot of the houses in a particular Kansas City area and gave them amazingly tiled kitchens and bathrooms. (my parents just bought one w/ two of his bathrooms--I was really excited) It was a sad story though because I guess a lot of people rip out the tile and put in "modern" bathrooms. Now, I love an updated house as much as anyone, but the original tile? That someone put that much thought and work in? It's practically art! So, my heartfelt hope is that this little house will find a buyer who wants to keep it's tile the way it's meant to be.
By the way, if anyone wants more info, let me know and I can direct you to the listing!

Better late than never!

I know--it's been almost 2 weeks since the fashion show, and no pictures. Well, I was trying to find better ones--the spotlight wasn't on when our girls walked the runway so the light isn't that fantastic, so we will have to make do. I'm still on the lookout though, so if I find some better ones I will put them up. By the way, everything is for sale at the store if anything strikes your fancy!

Swap-O-Rama

The Swap-O-Rama is toniiigghhht!

Here's how it works: you bring different things that you don't want anymore (clothing, home goods, books, accessories, etc.). All items should be clean, undamaged and in working order. You can then browse the stuff everyone else brings, and swap it out for something you love! It's fantastic, you get to recycle your old stuff and refresh your world with "new to you" items! Starting at 6 p.m. you can bring your stuff and get a number, the swap will start at 7 p.m. Of course, there will be yummy refreshments! Call us at 816.756.0855 if you have any questions. And don't forget to bring all your friends!

Conversation pit

So this morning I had a rash of funny dreams which ranged from thinking about selling My Little Pony's at the store to looking at houses. And what was a prerequisite for the house I wanted? A conversation pit. I woke up soon after that and realized, actually I would love a conversation pit in my house! I mean how cozy is that? and a circular couch--awesome!
So, I found a couple of choice conversation pit pictures to show you (of course, mine would be different--a lighter version perhaps, as I am not fond of a lot of wood paneling). I also found a picture of a child's romper pit which is fully padded and ready for the kids to romp around in. Now I don't have kids, but that does seem like a perfect thing to have doesn't it?
Anyway, I'm going to go dream of my own pit now.

Viktor & Rolf

Would you really expect Viktor & Rolf to have a fussy old retrospective with mannequins? No--but would you expect them to make a huge dollhouse and tiny little porcelain dolls all wearing miniature Viktor & Rolf clothes? Well, no, but I'm glad they did, because it is awesome! I've put up some pics I found on Stylebubble, but you should really go here to see more.

want!

Hello! Did everyone have a good weekend? We were busy bees all day Saturday preparing for the fashion show that night (pics to come..) and it was so fun and everything went well! Nothing fell apart and none of our models wiped out on the runway, so that to me is a success!
I was skimming through some back posts of blogs and found this photographer on decor8. Her name is Catherine Ledner and she is an animal photographer--and by that I mean her photographs are so amazing that I am tempted to buy each and every one of them. Although I might have to save up for a while! Anyway, take a moment out of your day to look at her website -- it is truly enjoyable!

Ink Magazine

Ink Magazine came out with their new issue yesterday and they have profiles on all the designers for the show on Saturday, including yours truly! There are a variety of wonky pictures of myself as well as some lovely pics of all of our models! Emily is in it as well, look closely and you can see the back of her head in one of the pics (it's fun, like Where's Waldo) Go pick up a copy, but you can read a much smaller version of the article here.

Nautical Window

Hi! I thought you would enjoy some sneak peaks of our fun new nautical window. I tried to get the whole thing in a pictures but there wasn't room--so we will have to make-do with this....
Here is our new intern Annie embroidering fish on peg board for our backdrop
The pictures on the wall are from a 50's book that teaches kids how to swim. The deck chairs were in nasty shape when we got them, but with some paint and new fabric are so cute!
The Jonathan Adler melamine tableware is perfect for summer fun outside!

busy bees

Like little busy bees we have been working away and you can view the fruits of our labor! The website has had a much needed update--lots of new goodies have been added (and are still to come in the next few weeks!) The store has also had an update--a new summer window and a furniture shift has made everything new again!
So enjoy some time perusing the website, but if you are in KC it would be even more fun to come in the store and have a look. See you soon...

TV Debut!

Hi! I don't know if anyone happened to be up early this morning in KC watching the Fox 4 News morning show, but if you did you would have seen us on the Summer at Sea fashion show segments! 4 designers gave sneek peaks of the clothes for this weekends show, we had our dear friend Jeanette model the Beach Pajamas we made for the show. Check it out at the fox website! And of course, come see us Saturday at the 18th st fashion show! (www.westeighteenthstreet.com for more info)

On a side note, I noticed a story on the Fox website about the need for adoptive homes for 20 kitties who had been living with an elderly woman. She has had to move out of the house and if the kitties aren't adopted they may be euthanized--as I find that completely heartbreaking I thought I would put the link to the story here and if you are in the market for a cat you can contact them.

Time Out

In the midst of finishing all the tiddly things for the fashion show, working on a new window for the store and a Big website update my sister sent me this picture and the website http://www.atelieregypt.com/. Now all I want to do is cruise down the nile in my own private vessel--wearing some sort of glamorous 1940's flowing outfit. Drinking cool fizzy drinks. Hmm, someday......

by the way, I'm sorry for the lack of posts--once my whirlwind of work is finished in the next week, I will be back on my game. Unless I've flown away to Egypt by then!

Disney Fundraiser!

As I mentioned before, I am helping to put a fund raiser together for the Thank You Walt Disney foundation. The event will be held on June 12th at the newly refurbished Screenland Armour theater in North Kansas City. We will have a silent auction, a tour of the newly renovated theater and a screening of the new Indiana Jones movie. Tickets are $35.00, if you are interested in attending, please let me know--email me at betsy@bonbonatelier.com

little history..

In May 1922 Walt Disney founded Laugh-O-Gram Films in Kansas City, MO. Disney started out with a contract to produce cartoons for Pictorial Clubs Inc., a company that soon went bankrupt, causing Laugh-O-Gram to fall on hard times. By the end of 1922 Walt Disney was living in his office. He found a surprising friend in the form of a tame mouse, which he later told interviewers was the inspiration behind Mickey Mouse. By July 1923 Laugh-O-Gram had declared bankruptcy and Disney moved to Hollywood California.

Thank You Walt Disney Inc, is committed to restoring the Laugh-O-Gram studio and Disney's original office, with the goal of turning it into a museum and interactive learning lab. Here, kids will be able to learn more about the art of animation, as well as how vision and determination can lead down the road to success.

The picture above is of Walt working at his desk at the studio, which is at 1127 East 31st st.
